Pinnawala has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. In 2023, there were 71 elephants, including 30 males and 41 females from 3 generations, living in Pinnawala. The orphanage was founded to care and protect the many orphaned unweaned wild elephants found wandering in and near the forests of Sri Lanka.
Times to visit the Orphanage The centre opens at 8.30 in the morning and closes at 6 pm daily. Bottle feeding is at 9.15 am, 1.15 pm & 5 pm and bathing times at the river is at 10 am and 2 pm. Visit Dambulla Cave Temple & Golden Temple
A sacred pilgrimage site for 22 centuries, this cave monastery, with its five sanctuaries, is the largest, best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. The Buddhist mural paintings (covering an area of 2,100 m2 ) are of particular importance, as are the 157 statues.

Hiriwadunna is a quaint rural village in the centre of Habarana, where there are more trees than people.
The village tour is an interesting experience in learning the village life of the country which is laid back unlike the hustle bustle of city life.
Encounter a bullock cart ride for a traditional experience. Enjoy the cool breeze and observe scenic views whilst passing through the lush countryside and scrub lined mud paths.
There are colourful catamarans lined up at the banks of the artificial lake which is surrounded by jungles and there is a hub of activity by birds and butterflies and you can witness some villagers fishing in their boats or washing their clothes on the banks.

Climb Sigiriya Lions Rock (2 – 3 hours)
Sigiriya was designated as a world heritage site in 1982. Sigiriya is famous for it's palace ruins on top of a massive 200 meter high rock surrounded by the remains of an extensive network of gardens, reservoirs and other structures. The rock itself is a lava plug left over from an ancient long extinct volcano.
Lion Rock is recommended to climb from 7 AM to avoid the heat and crowd. The climb to the top will take about 45 minutes. Exploring the whole area around and on top of the rock will take you about 2 – 3 hours.
Tip: Wear good shoes and take drinking water
Evening Minneriya National Park - Jeep Safari (Starts at 03:00 pm)
Minneriya National Park is home to the world’s largest known gathering of Asian elephants. During this period, herds of up to 350 elephants are seen at the 8,890-hectare park within a few square kilometers of the Minneriya Tank. According to some reports, there are as many as 700 elephants. The biggest concentration of wild Asian elephants in the entire world may be found in Sri Lanka’s Minneriya National Park, which is home to a wide variety of species. Nearly 31,000 hectares make up Minneriya National Park.
Nearly 170 bird species and other animals are also found in the area. Jeep safaris are a popular way for visitors to go through the park, increasing their chances of seeing park animals in their natural habitat at twilight.

also known as Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, is a man-made lake located in the center of Kandy, Sri Lanka, The lake extends 6,544 square metres with a circumference of 3.21 km. The deepest part is 18.5 metres deep with a small island in the middle on which stand the ruins of what was supposed to be the king's pavilion for relaxing.
The kandyan dance is highly sophisticated and refined. It flourished under the Kandyan kings from the 16th through the 19th centuries, and today it is considered the national dance of Sri Lanka.

Visit Tooth relic temple: The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic or Sri Dalada Maligawa, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy, Sri Lanka. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha
Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. The relic was historically held by Sinhalese kings. The temple of the tooth is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple and the relic.
Visit Peradeniya Botanical Gardens
The Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya was established in 1821, six years after the final occupation of the Kandyan Kingdom by the English. The site occupies a loop of the river Mahaweli, which surrounds it on all sides except the south, where it is bounded by the main road. The area 61.25 ha in extent, is about 1550ft from sea level. More than 4000 species of plants including woody trees, Palms, Ferns, Orchids and shrubs currently present within the gardens.
Visit Tea Plantation Process and Tea Plucking Experience – Have a Cup of Ceylon Tea
Here you’re given the unique opportunity to actively take part in tea plucking, an important part of the process of making tea. Receive a basket in which to collect your leaves and move to the tea fields where professional tea pluckers show you basic training on techniques, as only specific buds are picked for consumption. After plucking, the head will inspect your efforts and take you on a tour to witness the entire process of making tea in the tea factory. It takes a bit of practice and efforts to get used to the plucking, but it will be absolutely an unforgettable experience during your trip to Sri Lanka.
Ramboda Waterfalls is 109 m (358 ft) high and the eleventh tallest waterfall in Sri Lanka and the 729th tallest waterfall in the world. It is situated in Pussellawa area, on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass. The waterfall is formed by the Panna Oya which is a tributary of Kothmale Oya. The falls have an elevation 945 m (3,100 ft) above sea level.

Though the threats to sea life exist here too, we take extensive measures to reduce the threats. Five out of the seven types of sea turtles call nest on our beaches. All of them are on the endangered list. The species in that inhabit the seas around Sri Lanka are:
- Leatherbacks: Largest and oldest of all sea turtles. They have been around for over 150 million years. The average adult weighs between 600-800 pounds and has length measures between 5 to 6 feet. They are one of the largest reptiles alive today.
- Green Turtles: They are the second largest sea turtles and can measure upto 4 feet in length and weigh upto 500 pounds. They are herbivores.
- Loggerheads: One of the larger turtle species. They weigh between 200-400 pounds and may have a length upto 4 feet. They are named for their large heads and strong crushing jaws adapted to eat hardshelled prey such as crabs, conchs, etc.
Hawksbills: They measure between 2-3 feet and weigh around 100-200 pounds. They are on the smaller end of the sea turtle size spectrum.They make their homes in tropical waters. Their names come from their narrow heads and sharp birdlike beaks. They use the beaks to catch prey in cracks and crevices coral reefs and rocks. Hawksbills are considered to be the most beautiful of all sea turtles.
- Olive Ridley Turtles: They are the second smallest after Kemp Ridley turtles. They beasure between 2-2.5 feet and weigh between 75 to 100 pounds. Their pale green carapace gives them their name. They arecurrently the most abundant sea turtle species around the world but are still vulnerable.
